Scale: The Shadow of Time

Scale. The Shadow of Time, land art object (2021)

Tiny cracks on the surface of chalk look like tectonic faults up close. It seems these narrow tunnels lead to the center of the Earth. Perhaps, they appeared after a big puddle had dried up and would probably disappear after the next rain. But it’s quite an interesting game to imagine how deep these fractures go and how old they really are. Despite all the temporality, they give the impression of something ancient. We kind of project this uncertain, hidden from the human eye time outside, giving it a shape, measuring it with the usual points of reference: the movement of the sun and celestial objects.
The object was created in the framework of land art symposium Borderland (Mohrytsia, Ukraine) which took place with the support of Ukrainian Cultural Fundation.
