The main cover of the portfolio is a representation of self-doubt. The pointing / twiddling of the two fingers over and over again is a common sign of nervousness. I placed different scenarios around the fingers showing how my creative juices are just there, waiting to be unleashed from the self-sabotage I am feeling.
Hiraya, Trust Yourself’ is not just a compilation of my works from 2020 to 2022. It is also a collection of my learnings through the difficulties I experienced as a graphic designer.

The main theme of my portfolio this year is about ‘Imposter Syndrome’. I learned this term from a podcast, and from there I became curious enough to read books and studies that tackled this concept. According to the dictionary, ‘Imposter Syndrome’ is when you doubt your own abilities. This doubt, in turn, makes you feel like a fraud. Because of this, it becomes difficult for you to accept compliments from other people, or to feel good about what you accomplish. Several studies say that there are five (5) types of Imposter Syndrome. I relate the most to the ‘Superhero’ type. Being the eldest among four children, I always try to be the most efficient role model for my younger siblings. This mindset not only affected the way I experienced life, but also hindered me from appreciating my own work as a graphic designer because I felt like I always overlooked, overworked, and
over-criticized myself.

In this portfolio, I wrote about how I dealt with self-doubt by remembering the things I am enthusiastic about - the joy I felt while working on certain projects and how I appreciate small things that help get me through difficult times.

Hiraya is a celebration of myself, the people I work with, and the works I have done.

Thank you for viewing and reading my 2022 portfolio!

See you, soon!
