This is a drawing project I started to help me work through the death of my dog, Lily. I wanted to create a strong memory of her, so that I could still have something tangible of her to hold. Her storyline became a mix of myth, reality and emotional perspective.
Drawing myself into the storyline was an attempt to get closer to her, to physically be there in this story, even though I had not been in real life.
The story takes a strange twist at the end. Perhaps it is a combination of me trying to consume Lily, me trying to consume and contain my feelings, as well as the physical form of the process of euthanasia, which feels a lot bigger, monstrous and more alien than it actually is.
