Under Construction

"Under Construction" represents the current changes that are happening within the fashion industry. People are working hard to improve sustainability and inclusivity and I aim to pay respect to that dedication.

Traditional fabrics and patterns are juxtaposed with construction elements to represent the ever changing and evolving world of fashion, and the importance of both history and innovation when building a new future.
Traditional elements were juxtaposed with construction elements to symbolise the importance of learning from the past, but to also make sure we are continuously innovating to create a new and better world.
Colours, fabrics, and textures were inspired by British tradition, but re-imagined in different and unusual ways.
We are always "Under Construction" as we learn and grow. If we forget this we become stagnant and fail to keep up with the ever changing world.

Mixing traditional fabrics with construction elements represents the changes currently happening in the fashion industry. The unfinished feeling of the garment shows that while we have made great improvements, we still have a long way to go. Clever use of utility pattern cutting techniques greatly reduces waste fabric.

Industrial wastage selvedge fabric was used to create this super chunky knit.
Vintage garments were upcycled to create patchworks using traditional menswear fabrics. Traditional Fair Isle patterns were printed in over-size on modern fabrics to create a contrast of old and modern. Construction elements were also used to create fabrics.
