Evening by the Sea

As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the French writer, wrote in his post-mortem work "Citadel," before you teach someone about sailing or building a ship, you must first teach the love for the sea.
The sea has always been a passion for me ever since a young age. I grew up in a somewhat remote little beach. By age 8, our dad made for my twin brother and me a sail board, which we used to take to the beach everyday after school. Later I worked as a draftsman in a shipyard and eventually I graduated in Naval Architecture before becoming a free-lance photographer. Some of my friends used to say that I probably had seawater rather than blood flowing in my veins. I honestly don’t care much about sunny beach days, what moves me really is the smell and sight of the sea, whether in a sunny or a gloomy day.
This is an unpretentious series of photos I took at the beach towards the end of the winter in 2021. We were still in the middle of the pandemic and I was desperately longing to see the ocean up close.
