Mrs Eaves Typographic Poster
O objectivo deste projecto foi criar um cartaz exclusivamente tipográfico sobre um tipo de letra específico à nossa escolha. Este deveria comunicar as características desse mesmo tipo e incluir o nome do tipo usado, todo o alfabeto e outras palavras que ajudassem a fortalecer o conceito.
Eu escolhi a Mrs Eaves e para o conceito do cartaz decidi dar ênfase à história por trás do nome deste tipo através da frase no topo, da ligatura no centro (referência simbólica a duas alianças) e do texto descritivo. No texto pode se ler: "Quando John Baskerville instalou o seu negócio de impressão e tipografia, contratou Sarah Eaves como sua governanta a tempo inteiro. Mais tarde, esta tornou-se sua amante e colaboradora na oficina, chegando mesmo a completar a impressão de volumes que Baskerville deixou inacabados com a sua morte. Viveram juntos durante 16 anos até casarem, menos de um mês depois da morte do primeiro marido de Sarah. Desenhada em 1996 por Zuzana Licko, que se inspirou nos desenhos de John Baskerville, este tipo de letra foi baptizado de Mrs Eaves em honra a uma das grandes mulheres da História da tipografia."
The objective of this project was to create an exclusively tipographic poster using a specific typeface chosen by us. It should comunicate its characteristics and include the name of the typeface, the whole alphabet and other words that would help to strengthen the concept.
I chose Mrs Eaves and for the poster's concept I decided to emphasize the story behind the name of this typeface through the sentence on the top, the ligature in the center (symbolic reference to two wedding rings) and the description in the text. It says: "As John Baskerville was setting up his printing and type business, he hired Sarah Eaves as his live-in housekeeper. She later became his mistress and helpmate with typesetting and printing and even completed the printing of the unfinished volumes that Baskerville left upon his death. They lived together for 16 years until they married, less than a month after her husband’s death.Designed in 1996 by Zuzana Licko, this typeface was named Mrs Eaves in honor of one of the great women in the History of typography.".
