Bahrain - Waterlow

This is a standard example of an advert created to move a large stock of fairly low cost items. Because the demographic in philately (stamp collecting) skews older, I decided that a study into 70’s poster design would be the most fruitful.

The main graphical motif is an expansion of the sunbeams within the stamp. The initial purpose of the stamp was to highlight the gorgeous and exotic location of Bahrain - so it made the most sense to emphasise that further. A subtle gradient and sandstone texture used on the background, paired with the slightly distressed line work, elevated the design elements to move further past flat vector shapes. Finally, the title type was an exploration of 60’s psychedelia and Arabic line work. This made sense for both the demographic’s interest, and the items heritage.

This poster went on to drive sales and was highly received both within the industry and by consumers.
