Samsung and Apple Brings a New Wearable OS

Samsung and Apple Brings a New Wearable OS

The first hint of two technology behemoths would collaborate on a wearables project came at the I/O event last month. However, there are still more speculations and less information about the partnership.

The collaboration was formally launched as a “unified platform,” allowing designers to develop a unified app for Google’s Wear OS as well as Tizen. As mentioned earlier, third-party app development has proven to be a significant barrier for both businesses as they seek to challenge Apple’s dominance in the segment. Now Samsung and Apple came with a clear picture of collaboration.

During the Mobile World Congress 2021, Samsung, a South Korean smartphone company, revealed glimpses of its smartwatch OS. Samsung and Google collaborated to create this unified operating system. According to the company, Google’s Wear OS not only incorporated good features and components into the new operating system, but it also incorporated Samsung Tizen OS. According to Samsung, the unified operating system will provide users with the best features in the smartwatch.

Galaxy Watch to get the new OS

The Galaxy Watch Wearables will be the first product to be released on the new Samsung Unified platform. Later this year, the company may reveal the new operating system in ‘Summer Unpacked.’ The company has stated that, in addition to this unified platform, a single UI skin will be released. In addition to improved performance, users with new operating systems will benefit from improved connectivity between the Watch and Android smartphones. The platform will have more applications than before. So, a lot is on the horizon as a result of the collaboration of two tech titans.

The company made several necessary changes

Samsung has announced at the beginning of the event that One UI Watch with a new unified platform is going to give users a new Galaxy Watch experience. With this, users will get features like automatically installing watch-competitive apps in smartphones in Samsung Galaxy Watch. At the same time, many features such as seamless clock functions and blocking contacts from the watch have been made part of it and some changes have been made in the UI.

Software updates for at least three years

Samsung has said that Galaxy Smartwatches will continue to receive software updates for at least three years. In addition, wearables and smartwatches of other brands can also be supported by this unified platform. With this platform, users will be able to download third-party apps directly from the Play Store. These apps include Adidas Running, Golf buddy Smart Caddie, Strava, Sleep Cycle, Spotify, YouTube Music, Google Maps, etc.

Improved Wearables

Sameer Samat, Vice President of Product, Android & Wear at Google, said, “Samsung and Google have a long history of partnerships and when we work together, the experience our consumers get gets much better. “The unified platform will be rolled out for Samsung’s new watch for the first time,” he said. Together with Samsung, we will provide a strong battery life, better performance, and a new range of apps with a completely new wearable experience. “

New Watch Face

South Korean company Samsung is also likely to bring several new watches faces for its Galaxy smartwatches by the end of this year. The company is going to give developers a special face design tool for this, which will benefit developers.

Let’s see what more is coming from the MWC 2021. Till now, people who are looking for Wearables can wait for this new collaborative effort by these two tech titans.
