Pacific Rim Parks

Project Description:

A sister city alliance between San Diego and Vladivostok leads to a string of parks built to unite "Pacific Rim" countries via collaboration and diplomacy among young volunteers. Designed and build under the leadership of artist James Hubbell, architect Kyle Bergman and an international team of architects, artist, builders and students from China, Russia, Mexico and United States.
According to J.H.: "art is about discipline and trust. You begin with something small to let something big happened. The parks are raise from the land instead of landing like an UFO. The process of design/build in these projects works like a jazz composition - you must understand the theme and the tune, to be able to perform a solo and then improvise".
The parks celebrate cultural diversity around the pacific and participants gather to create a unique space with no boundaries. The PRP projects continue being built and three more were created in Puerto Princesa - Philippines (2009), Jeju - South Korea (2010) and Kaohsiung - Taiwan (2013) besides the first one in Vladivostok - Russia (1995).
