The Helvetica Typography Project

The Typography Project.

This project was to explore typography specifically building a 1 metre high letter that features in our name (hence my letter, K). This construct could be made of any material, so long it met the specifications.

This allowed us to take into consideration the dimensions, the serifs, heights, etc.

With this brief, we needed a concept that had meaning and why we chose the specific materials. And as well why we photographed it in a specific rural setting.
The Concept.

My concept was based around the stages of our life but also key moments and what makes us who we are as a person.

The bottles are meant to represent a mosaic style, and mosaic in life is symbolic of our patterns in which we live, the memories we share and our characteristics; as if these different pieces together form who we are as a person.

The flowers however, are representative of the beautiful and cherished moments and how important they are and how much they mean to us, hence they stand out in the piece but also compliment the mosaic pieces as well.

The reason for photographing this in a setting with nature and trees is meant to represent the stages of life that trees also go through; for example, spring is representative of birth/rebirth and so on.

The Final Statue.
Process: Collecting the bottles from neighbours.
Process: Collecting fake flowers at a wholesale store.
Process: Building and Welding the frame for the letter.
