'Field Notes 2020 – 2021'
'Field Notes 2020 – 2021' is an experimental, cross-cultural, cross-language, book collaboration; the physical result of two people from two different countries, working in isolation, who have never spoken or met. The medium for communication was at all times messages sent back and forth over the internet. As such 'Field Notes' is the intimate, tactile result of a purely digital conversation.

The book features sixty text entries, initially written in English by Person A, that were sent to Person B.
Those sixty texts were then translated into Russian by Person B. Person A asked that Person B interpret and include both text versions in a book format as they saw fit. Person B had complete control over the concept, form, layout and destination of that piece. No time frame for completing the project was given.
The collaboration can thus be seen as an exercise in vulnerability and trust, where the rewards of moving into unknown territory and not being able to completely control the final outcome far exceed any one, singular idea Person A or B might have about their own work.
The project was begun in January 2020 and a first printing of the book was completed by Person B in June 2021.
The title of the work was agreed on by mutual consent with both Person A and B taking into account the idea of observations, recordings and materials used.
