HELLO PAISA | PAPER PLANE ANIMATION

Project Brief

This project required one to come up with a unique way to tell Hello Paisa customers that they can send money home to their friends and family with Hellopaisa. Furthermore, one was required to design a simple yet effective A5 flyer with a completely new look and feel focusing on design, layout, and concept (Message). The final task was to create a 20-30 second animation that would communicate the main concept.

Rationale

A paper plane is commonly known to be associated with the concepts of simplicity, communication, optimism, travel and desire. There is a level of admiration that is obtained by creating a paper plane out of a simple paper and launching it. It’s easy, practical and fast. The symbolism of a paper plane correlates with Hellopaisa’s brand USP. By using Hellopaisa's service of low-cost international money transfer, it’s as easy, fast and can happen anytime-anywhere like building a paper plane. The A5 flyer consists of an illustration that depicts a girl on top of the Statue of Liberty, launching paper planes that are flying towards the Soweto Towers that are located in South Africa.

The depiction of the Statue of liberty puts emphasis on the concept of low-cost international money transfer and also highlights that this financial solution is not limited or bound to the African continent. The paper planes are made up of different currencies from different currencies. This further highlights the concept of low-cost international money transfer. The Statue of Liberty and the girl are depicted in day-time settings while the Soweto Towers are represented in night-time settings. The contrast in the representation of these two landmarks is significant as it places emphasis that you can send money to different countries anytime and anywhere, with same time collection. One is not restricted by time zones. The illustration adopts a fresh and vibrant feel that is complemented by bold and highly saturated colours. The choice in boldness and highly saturated colours aims to promote the optimism that is created by using this financial solution that is aimed to make people’s lives easier.

20-30 Second Animation

The concept behind the 20-30 second animation serves as an extension of the concept for the A5 flyer. The animation portrays the story of a South African man living in South Africa and wants to send money to his daughter that still lives in Zimbabwe. The man looks at the map of the world and chooses where he would like to transfer money (Zimbabwe). He starts folding the map of the world into a paper plane, as he does this the paper plane starts transforming into a R100 note taking the form of a paper plane. When the man is done folding the paper plane he launches it. The paper plane flies and passes different South African landscapes or scenes in South Africa. The paper plane finally reaches South Africa where one sees the man’s daughter whereby she catches the paper plane. During this time the paper plane has transitioned into a dollar note and the girl places the paper plane (money) in her wallet.
