365 challenge: sketch a day (January - June)

From the beginning of 2021 I started to draw into a new sketchbook and decided to give myself a challenge – to make a sketch every day for 365 days. This is an ongoing project but I decided to make a selection of my favourite sketches from the last 6 months.

Sketching is my regular, important practise; it helps me to develop different ideas and projects. I love this part of the work because it is the research segment. Also while I do it I feel more relaxed and the drawings often look more spontaneous than my finished work. I hope I’ll be able to apply some of these characteristics into my future illustration projects.

I wanted to try this challenge in order to figure out some new ideas, but I was also interested to see what can inspire me to draw every day. Of course, there is a range of work from better to worse but here is just a part. There are many motives – I think I was most often inspired by people, but there are also animals, nature, movies, art, fashion, street, traffic, sea, markets, sport, etc. I used different techniques, markers, crayons, ink, watercolours, pencil, collage. For one part of the drawings I was using my imagination and memory, and for others I was drawing on the spot while watching the motif. There were days when I was really stimulated, but some days it was difficult to make anything. The dare in my head made me do it. I hope I will succeed for another six months and that you will be able to see part 2.
