Billmund’s been a hipster from the day we first sat down to coffee. Laid back and cool but with a laugh that breaks through the veneer and lets you know there’s excited talent bubbling away inside. He knows cool and can tell the man from the sham.

The illustrations below answered a brief to create a character that represented one lone creative nominee. Across the eleven illustrations you’ll see the same character display a suave geekiness that was dialed up and down as he experienced more or less success. From great wit to total shit.

We’ve included some of the illustrations much larger than they appeared in the final layout so that you can appreciate Billmund’s skills. Even the clothes worn by the protagonist are indicative of where he’s at. In times of success his clothes are very textured and the drawn folds are neat and crisp. When he loses his class the textures are less refined and the folds start to meander like sweaty cloth all over his bedrangled limbs.

This ability to depict a recognisable character of any class with textures and deft handed linework is across all Billmund’s work.
