Full CGI | Volvo C40 Project

Welcome! glad you had time to click on my project, so while you're here, you might as well check out my renders down below.... oh wait, that's why you clicked on my artwork in the first place. Well anyways, lets get into it. This project features Volvos all new C40 Recharge and being a Volvo fan, I couldn't resist making it. So, I think this project took around 2 months of modeling, texturing, procrastinating, and rendering so I hope you enjoy!
Alright, time to breakdown the modeling and texturing process this bad boy
So, lets start with the exterior modeling. You might be wondering how I was able to make an accurate model of a car that hasn't even released yet. Well, I used a software called Autodesk Imagemodeler which lined up a bunch of different photos of the car allowing me to have a perspective reference to work off of.
Once I had that base mesh finished, it was time for the most tedious part of this project, modeling the details. For that I just stared at the only 2 review videos that existed which was quite difficult but worked fine.
Now lets look into further detail into the interior. At the time when I had to start modeling the interior, I was worrying there wasn't going to be any references of the interior, but I was like hey, maybe the Volvo xc40 recharge has the same interior, and fortunately, it did. With that discovery, I used Autodesk imagemodeler again using the same process and the dashboard was born.
Now its time to add materials, and for that, I did something completely new. The interior was 100% textured in substance painter. It actually worked surprisingly well and produced great results in a fast time
Now that we got that over with, I guess its time to talk about the finished render. The render went through many different variations. Most of the changes were thanks to the critiques from the very helpful Automotive CGI discord server. The finale scene was around 19 million polygons (the car is only around 1.4 million) and as you can imagine, in blender, it was a nightmare. The assets in the environment were from quixel megascans.
There's some examples of the prior versions of the render. I am very pleased with the results I ended up with and with what I have learned through this whole project. Well, I guess its time to part, so I will hopefully see you again, Cheers!
