This TVC combines both live action liquids pelted at the model's head (must have been a fun shoot!) and some Real Flow simulation.

The initial brief for this job called for the fruit to explode into chunks as well as liquid as they hit the model's head. The brief evolved to require the deceptively simpler option of the fruit popping like water bombs as they hit.

Simulating the liquid explosions was a little complex. For the fruits to explode on impact, they each had to be filled with a certain number of particles, going over a threshold of internal pressure so to speak. Finding the particle fill level sweet spot took some research, as it changed each time depending on the container (fruit) volume.

The amount of particles required slowed down the simulation, so the filling was done only a few frames before impact.

A bit of scripting came in handy to get the explosions going, and some technical know how allowed me to add some variation and direction control for the blasts. When you factor in the 30 odds pieces of fruit and vegetable that were being dealt with, you begin to see the scope of the work.
