Banyan Home Wall Mural

For this project, students aim to design wall murals for the residents of Banyan Home at Pelangi Village, with the thought of brightening their daily lives with a design that could evoke happiness and meaningful thoughts from residents when they see it.

With this in mind, I decided to introduce food to my mural design, as it was something they loved and they look forward to, and are eager and excited for mealtimes too. However, too much might turn it into temptation, so I had to limit myself and not overdo the amount on the wall.

I decided to include the image of kampongs in my design, as most of the residents are elderly, and kampongs might have been a part of their lives at a point of time. I wanted it to be a reminder of their cultural and traditional roots, a reminder of the good memories from the old days, a part of their past, a part of them.

Also, flora and fauna were included, with the choice of the sunflower as the main subject, as sunflowers are deemed to be “happy”, exuding a bright and joyful feel, my first and main intention being to let the residents be happy. I used a butterfly to complete the look.

Blue, was chosen for the background, a naturally calming colour, to soften the whole look, so the composition would not appear to bold and bright to the observer, hence giving it a softer feel and approachable to the eyes.

This is my proposed idea, a happy and vibrant piece with a tinge of nostalgance.
