One Step Away, the Philadelphia homeless newspaper

One Step Away
Philadelphia's first newspaper produced by those WITHOUT homes for those WITH homes
I supervise a human-services program called One Step Away, named for the newspaper it publishes while training men and women in Philadelphia's homeless shelter system job skills and life skills and helping them earn money through the sales of papers.

But I do more the run the program. I put together the newspaper.

I design every monthly tab-size issue of 16 to 24 pages. I often take the photos. I write all the headlines. I apply the news judgement for story placement.

One Step Away is probably the best-designed, most readable newspaper in the growing niche of street newspaper throughout the world, 26 of which are in North American markets alone.
