Unfinished graphic novel about ANZAC and Gallipoli.
Page one: Sample art and story of a graphic novel about Gallipoli, told from different points of view, from Turkish soldiers and Anzacs. Watercolor and ink.
This proposal was put forward by a publisher in 1996, but was rejected by the group's publishing panel as too controversial. They feared a comic would be seen by the public as satirical or disrespectful to the memory of fallen soldiers and families. Another publsher also turned it down. Ahead of it's time or too niche for New Zealand, perhaps? Maus had already been published five years before, in 1991 by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman.
