Co-Living Igloo Village

Many adults in the city are suffering from loneliness when they live away from home. With the access to the internet and having multiple social media accounts, lots of them are having a false sense of connection. In fact, they are lacking a space for social interactions face to face.
The design is to provide a private individual living space for each residents (singletons aged from 18 to 50) and micro communities for groups of residents, so to create social connections away from school or work places. It also provide a public area for interactions of the residents and the neighbourhood pedestrians, which will help increase the communitas (spirit of community) in the neighbourhood. The main goal is to let residents to feel socially connected while enjoying quality time in their own private living space.
There are clear boundaries between the public spaces, common spaces and private spaces. All spaces are public on the ground floor, spaces on second floor are common spaces only for residents and the individual dome shaped flats are private spaces for each resident.
A design language of rounded corners and curves could be seen in the design. It is a way to introduce a sense of harmony to the community. Moreover, these rounded corners could reduce blockage of sight, providing a wider view for people inside. A better view would be ben- eficial as residents could see what is happening outside the coliving building and therefore have a sense of belonging to the neighbourhood.
