I found a collection of matchbooks in a really big jar that spans from the 1950's to the 1980's at my neighbor's yard sale when I lived in Orlando, FL. Apparently the husband had passed away and his wife was selling his things. I am sure this was a prized possesion of his and it represents decades of travels and adventures.

I initially did the design by just photographing an arrangement of the matches but I was not happy with the quality. On my second attempt, I scanned each matchbook individually @ 600dpi then optimized, cut and pasted each one over it's place in the original image in Photoshop. After placing additional matchbooks, I finished by touching up edges and refining shadow areas with some digital airbrushing.
