SVA Senior Porfolio Project – American Apathy
For my Senior Portfolio class at the School of Visual Arts in NYC we were asked to advertisement or magazine cover that we can culturally “hi-jack” and use as our template to manipulate into an advertisement for SAVEDARFUR.ORG then reapplying the manipulated advertisement or cover back onto the publication and placing it back into the store or newsstand where we found it. I found the simplicity of the American Apparel aesthetic a great vehicle and replaced the portraits of vibrant, young teenagers with those that draw attention to the genocide in Darfur, Africa while keeping some of the 'brightness' of the original American Apparel advertisement.

THE SAVE DARFUR COALITION was an advocacy group that called “to raise public awareness and mobilize a massive response to the atrocities in Sudan’s western region of Darfur.” It was a coalition of more than 190 religious, political and human rights organizations designed to campaign for a response to the atrocities of the War in Darfur.
