Cohort Capsule - A Generational Journey | ISTD

Cohort Capsule is a response to the 2021 ISTD brief titled ‘Putting Things in Order’.

Taking the reader through the past five generations and telling the story with typography and iconography allows these events to be experienced from a humane standpoint. Often unknowingly, we are blind to the history of the typography and iconography that informed who we are today.
The aim of the publication is to generate a deeper appreciation for the events that helped form our ancestors through a small snippet of each generation. Using events that shaped a world view of race, politics, and war, for example, are vital to reminding the reader that history is part of who we are, whether directly affected or otherwise.
The book is A5 in size (inspired by WW2 Ration books) and depicts 15 world events across 5 generations, using 16 different typefaces over an impressive 194 pages. If you would like to read Cohort Capsule – a Generational Journey, or the accompanying strategy and specifications book, please get in touch.
This submission is in memory of my wee gran.
