THE ILLUSTRATION PROJECT
Rönnquist & Rönnquist Gallery

In this exhibition Niklas Asker uses his background in illustration to play with the definition of illustration and art. Is one worth more than the other? Is there any difference between them at all? For the exhibition at Rönnquist & Rönnquist Niklas has read 9 books and right after reading a book he has gone into the studio and created a painting that represents his experience of that story. An illustration if you will. The books are exhibited together with the paintings and can be flipped through and read at the exhibition. Anyone who buys a painting also gets the book and in that way the experiment continues, the viewer experiencing the panting first and the book second.

The Illustration Project is after books by Virginia Wolf, Haruki Murakami, Italo Calvino, Carl-Johan De Geer, Joan Didion, Philippe Claudel, Jeanette Winterson, Jón Kalman Stefánsson and Siri Hustvedt
