I have been working on portraits interwoven with nature. I discovered Crocus has lots of different meanings: rebirth, new beginnings, mindfulness, determination, etc. According to Greek legend, Crocus was a young noble, who fell in love with a shepherdess named Smilax. The gods forbade their marriage, and Crocus committed suicide. When she discovered his death, Smilax was heartbroken. The goddess Flora took pity on her and turned both Smilax and Crocus into plants (crocus is the large purple flower drawn above and smilax is the vine with heart shaped leaves). It is custom to use these plants woven together as garlands in wedding decorations. Thought I would share for any plant lovers out there.
