capracare is a nonprofit organization founded by Jean Pierre-Louis, MPH, now the CEO and President of capracare, a native of Fronféde, Haiti, a small rural village in Haiti’s third-largest city of Les Cayes. He founded capracare to build and develop sustainable community health and education programs across Haiti and eventually across the globe.

In its twelve-year history, capracare has survived through the generosity of skilled professionals. One of these professionals created the old website pro bono. The website served capracare well enough; however, the growing ambition of the CEO made it unfit for the future.

As capracare’s Director of Content Strategy, I realized a need for a dynamic website that told the capracare story, its people, and its work. I gave myself the responsibility to create the new website. 

Yet before I could create the website and brand, I had two problems. 

First, I didn’t know enough about capracare. 

Second, the quality of the assets, mainly the photos, wasn’t to the standards of an organization that wanted to be global.

Learning from charity: water, I understood to create a brand, I first had to make a brand book (I later realized I had the branding process backward, learning is fun!). Nevertheless, I created a brand book to become the north star for capracare (see it here). 

For the photos, I went to Haiti in March 2020 to photograph the beauty and courage of the people of capracare as they built sustainable programs. I left Haiti with over 750 photos for the different programs and exuberant confidence, knowing I would create a website showing the excellence of capracare.

I now understand capracare, its purpose, what makes it different, its ambition, and who it wants as its supporters.

I used Webflow to create the website and support its CMS platform. capracare now has a home where everyone can see the remarkable beauty of the organization, its vision, and how it’ll achieve its mission.
