The Stop is a not-for-profit food bank and organic green housing centre, located in Toronto, Canada, trying to preserve food security while helping those who fail to meet financial ends at the end of the day. They provide opportunities to access food in dignified ways, while educating the youth and elders about cooking and growing your own food in healthy, and environmentally friendly ways.

Each of the 8 Global Roots Gardens can be represented through the divided 8 squares. The “Yes, In My Backyard” Program is represented through the spread of seeds throughout the lower sections.

As a historical story of life and urban agriculture struggling to survive in the heart of the city, the lower section illustrates images of what The Stop has come from: bricks, cement, concrete, pavement, and the railway. As an unorganized need for growth, the piece transforms as you proceed upwards: soil, mulch and compost images are the next level - demonstrating trying to start a life in the city. From that point anything is possible: greenery of every shade, sprouts, flowers, lettuce, produce, and hope for a future can be grown. The top right corner is left for the future of The Stop. One of which is their hopes for a hydrophonic system and what that could mean for the self-sustaining ecosystem providing nutrition for the food-bank programs. The 4 levels also symbolize the future of a multi-tiered green housing system - conserving space, educating those in need, possibilities of new food production and composting, and availability to expand in every way imaginable.

Every image block is unique to each other, illustrating the diversity of the patchwork that makes The Stop what it is. Functionality, organization, and structure has been created out of a multitude of chaos and the belief that it was not possible to create an organic notion of food safety and security within the city.
