Jerash downtown urban redevelopment

Project: Urban redevelopment
Location: Jerash - Jordan
Site area: 80000 m2
Architects: Ibrahim Alharahsheh - Maram Darwish

Approach:
After analyzing the site, we found that it needs a landmark that attracts visitors to the downtown, and due to the low area, it needs to be a high landmark, and from there we came with the idea of creating an "observation tower", on the basis of which the rest of the activities whose aim was to bring together the local community and Visitors with small projects to benefit the people of Jerash, such as (food carts complex and guest houses ), and other large projects to stimulate the economic movement in the city and improve the quality of life for the local community, such as (public library and sports center).
Master plan before and after
1- Jerash observation tower: the main site landmark and a panoramic view of the Jerash archaeological site and the downtown area. A bridge was built similar to the ancient southern bridge linking it to the archaeological site.
2- The Hashemite Square: It was designed to encourage visitors and the people of the area to spend time in it by establishing various and varied activities, by preserving the antiquities area of the Eastern Baths.
3- Food carts Complex: Designed on bridges over the Gold Valley to integrate people with nature and take advantage of the beautiful views.
4- Old Souq Gallery: Since most of the shops in it were deserted, we turned the place into an outdoor gallery that preserves the old market and shows the culture and art of the people of Jerash.
5- King Abdullah Street: Emphasis was placed on widening the sidewalks to encourage walkability, and designing an addition to shops that would give pedestrians shade and be aesthetically pleasing to the street, as it solves the problem of random signage.
6- Jerash Public Library: It was designed to serve the local community and as a cultural interface that receives visitors from the side of the ancient southern bridge.
7- Guest houses: They were added so that visitors could experience sleeping in traditional Arab houses with a family from Jerash.
8- Jerash Sport Center: The purpose of its design was that we noticed the lack of sports and recreational places in the area, and to attract investors.
