Patola // an illustrated alphabet.
This project was formed in 2009 whilst attending art school.
The name PATOLA derives from the name of the silk cloth used when making saris. When illustrating these letters, I found my inspiration from various southern Asian fabrics. I was interested in the colour combinations and intricate patterns.
Although this project is now fairly old, it is usually prominent in my mind and I like to look back at it for reference.

I used the letters in my book Trickster Tales and perhaps will use them again at some point.
