MOSTYN Edge Project

Created within an interdisciplinary team to understand what public art audiences wanted in a digital age. EDGE was created as a digital tool that would appeal to postdigital audiences – those for whom digital has become a normative presence. EDGEis essentially an in-gallery ‘cultural jukebox’. Using an NFC enabled ‘puck’ offered customised curated approaches, as visitors can  access specific content tailored towards those who wanted an exhibition overview, such as families, or ‘enthusiasts’ wanting more in-depth information. Accessible and user-friendly EDGE showed contextual exhibition materials, digital art, and MOSTYN’s community work and events and had almost 24000 interactions within the 10 weeks it was live. Due to COVID-19, EDGE had to be put on hold, with its arcade machine buttons and high contact requirements was no longer viable.
As part of this user centred project, I was responsible as a UX researcher on the team, to understand the audiences, organise the current data, and to further understand the motivations of the audiences and the requirements of the art gallery, mockup and prototype various phases within the specified design process. These phases were to define the user’s journey, design scenarios for each puck experience, storyboard, wireframe and prototype pucks/interfaces/iconography and general UI.
