Table

No projecto final de curso, o desafio dado pelo professor Miguel Vieira Baptista, foi analisar detalhes da arquitectura tendo como base o interior e o exterior de uma habitação, procurando assim novas formas de pensar e desenvolver os objectos criando novas dinâmicas de interacção com o espaço doméstico.

Os elementos que me despertaram a atenção foram as escadas que têm apenas os degraus fixos á parede. Pensando no aspecto de estes nos elevarem para outra divisão e de haver um espaçamento entre cada degrau, interpretei-os como o suporte de uma mesa sendo eles a segunda perna.

Este estudo levou-me a projectar uma mesa que é regulável em altura e que se adapta aos vários elementos de uma habitação.

In this Final Project, Professor Miguel Vieira Baptista challenged us to analyse architectural details based on the interior and exterior of a house, so we could search for new ways of thinking and develop the objects, creating new dynamics and interactions with the domestic space.

The element that attracted my attention was the stairs that have the steps only fixed to the wall. I started to think in their particular aspect, which is the fact that they are leading us to another room but also the gap that exist between each step. I interpreted them as the support of a table, being the steps the second leg.

This study led me to design a table with an adjustable height and adaptable to the several elements of a housing.

O resultado final é uma mesa regulável em altura que tem um dos lados sem pernas, ficando livre para que possa ser assente ou ligado com outros elementos como, paredes, degraus, parapeitos, bancadas ou mesmo outras mesas.

A perna da mesa tem a particularidade de se poder rebater, facilitando assim a arrumação e o transporte da mesma. Por segurança, o aperto da perna extensível é feita por uma chave de seis faces que está arrumada no topo da mesa sendo suportada por um íman. Devido á bolha existente ao centro do tampo no momento do aperto da perna temos sempre a certeza que a mesa está de nível. Existem também dois acessórios que quando encaixados ao tampo permitem fazer a ligação aos vários elementos da habitação já aqui referidos.

Os materiais utilizados são: contraplacado, aço e alumínio.

The final result is a table with an adjustable height and without legs on one side, allowing it to fit or connect with other elements such as walls, steps, curbs, balconies or even other tables.

The leg of the table can be controverted, making it easier to pack and transport. As a measure of safety, the screwing of the extendable leg is made by a six-face key embedded on the top of the table, supported by a magnet. Due to the bubble level in the centre of the table top, we must ensure that the table is levelled while screwing the leg on it. There are also two accessories that can be attached to the table top allowing to connect the table to several housing elements.

The materials used are plywood, steel and aluminium.
