Giacomo di Cristallo
(The crystalline Giacomo)
Illustration and design for an excerpt from the book
of the Italian writer Gianni Rodari, "Tales by Phone.
The story is for children, from 4 to 8 years old,
and was written in Greek.
Giacomo is the hero of a fairy tale. He is a transparent boy, his inside
body and soul is visible. You can see if he is lying, his thoughts, and
his secrets. Everyone respects him because he always speaks the truth
and cannot hide anything. An evil dictator has come to the city where
he lives, and hurts all citizens, imprisons them, kills and expels them.
Giacomo is angry at his behavior and thinks negatively of them.
The tyrant imprisons him because he sees Giacomo's thoughts
and views against him. When Giacomo is in prison, the prison
becomes transparent and a bright light comes out that worries
the dictator. The conclusion of the tale is this: the truth will
be revealed, even if it is deeply hidden.
