Entering northern Europe

How do you create marketing material when travelling is off-limits and you’re entering a whole new market? This was our mission when the Chinese electric vehicle company NIO was looking for a creative partner for their launch in Europe. 

For NIO entering a first market overseas it meant that Asia meets Europe – in every sense: from the more rugged weather conditions to what purpose a car serves for the Nordic consumer today; how it’s being used in everyday life. 

In this project we took the ES8 from the conceptual images with an elegantly sleek, urban backdrop to set the car in a more familiar frame for the Norwegian customer. 

We have created the hero imagery for the web and assets for other platforms such as social media.

Behind the scenes

As NIO selected Norway as its doorway into Europe, so did we. But instead of the city centre of Oslo, we took the car to a more remote landscape — one radiating the boldness of Scandi scenes: the mountains. 

The following breakdown shows the exploration phase of the project. 

How high above sea level should we place the car? At what altitude does the tree line stop? And what about the flora: will it bloom in rich clusters or sparsely spread out when growing on a hillside?
