In the scope of the subject Theory of Perception that I took at ESAD Matosinhos, I chose as a subject of study several propaganda posters from the Soviet Union. During this work I analyze 7 posters, all of which are a representation of a period in which they were used merely as objects of information, clear and direct, being created through a national style, Russian Constructivism. I will address the use of colour according to 3 themes; the alphabetic dimension of the colour, with the framing within the interpretation of the 3 chromatics according to the Munsell Tree ( Hue, Saturation and Luminosity ), the syntactic dimension of the colour, framing within the seven contrasts of Johannes Itten and the symbolic dimension of the colour, framing the use of colour according to the current interpretation of “Dictionary of the colours of our time” by Michel Pastoureau. This work aims to frame the use of colour within these works, concluding how this use is or is not transversal to the entire panorama of this region, and why they were so effective in this matter. I will still address the use of colour according to the semantic dimension of colour, taking into account its 5 dimensions, Archetypal, Cosmological, Symbolic, Analogical and Conventional, and according to the rhetorical dimension of colour, framing within its 3 levels, Appeal, Persuasion and Loyalty. I will also refer to the use of the senses such as Sight, Taste, Smell, Hearing, Temperature, Vestibular and Kinesthetic and how these senses manipulate us. Thus creating a satisfying and effective experience. As a comparison, I used anti-USSR propaganda posters, created also at the same time, with a lot of influences in this style adopted by the Russian Government, with the intention of transmitting clear messages, informatively effective and capable of transmitting the proper sentiment that is presented.
