This was a collaborative branding and print project to create a children's membership for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Our concept focuses on giving members a defined role within the charity, this was done in a number of ways throughout the printed material we created. The brand name 'HeliHelpers' also plays on this idea, and ensures the children feel they are an active part of the membership programme.
The visual aesthetic of HeliHelpers is based on a typical Cornish landscape. A scene of blue skies and rounded hills speaks to a younger audience, whilst the 3D model aspect adds an element of craft to the design. We were aware that CAAT use red and yellow as their brand colours, and we wanted to keep HeliHelpers consistent with this.
Our interactive poster is designed to engage children using perforated tabs. It would ideally be displayed in and around schools to target friendship groups. We used the aspirational roles of the air ambulance crew to attract children to join the HeliHelpers and cement their position in the crew.
We kept the visuals consistent across the printed material to hold a strong brand aesthetic. However, using an informal tone and personalising the copy keeps each element varied and interesting for young readers.
Addressing the newsletter to their individual rank reinforces the important role of the members and appeals to their aspirational nature.
To further promote HeliHelpers, we used the leaflet to showcase what can be expected from membership with CAAT. The ‘Find your own Helicrew’ tear off slip acts as a device to encourage friendship groups to join together in a similar way to the aforementioned poster. We also developed a family membership promotion as an incentive for larger families to join.
The newsletter we designed continues to engage children through interactive activities and games. Using white boxes as a basic template we have ensured the newsletter is as low maintenance as possible, and
can be easily reproduced by their in-house team for future issues.
Considering merchandise, we designed a series of badges children would receive upon joining the HeliHelpers. Again, this reflects their role within the crew and aims to raise awareness of the brand. We then developed a range of badges that celebrate continued support to the trust, to be posted out biannually, for example.
