Raj Uphaar: Packaging

As a part of my internship, this was a live project done for Raj Uphaar.

Background:
Raj Uphaar is an initiative of Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care, the charitable arm of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur.
Raj Uphaar supports over 150 underprivileged tribal women in their quest towards attaining self-reliance and a respectable source of income. These talented and dedicated women produce more than 100 desserts, snacks, fragrances and utility products for your home.
In the midst of the pandemic, RU decided to rebrand its packaging and aim to reach 5x more people than they used to in order to help these women in these trying times. However, the project needed to manifest itself within the short timeframe of 2 months - which included the production of the items.

Process:
The project came with multiple limitations from a design perspective since manufacturing costs, logistics costs, etc had be maintained to be able to achieve the highest possible profit margin for those rural women. As a result, the design needed to be simple, easy to transport, low its making cost and easy for illiterate women to understand since they would be assembling these items. After taking all of these things into consideration, Dhriti and I, along with a team of production and management volunteers, were able to achieve the packaging that ticked these boxes.
In the course of this project, I learnt various skills right from production of packaging, bulk printing, colour swatch testing (in a pandemic) to materials, manufacturing costs, and logistics and delivery hassles.

This project is closest to my heart, not because of its design but because of the impact it created and the communities it served.
