Series: America's most beautiful landscapes
The Nautilus of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah
The Nautilus, or Nautilus Rock, is the semi-official name of a gorgeous formation of wind and water-eroded sandstone, at the edge of a small tributary ravine near the Paria River in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah. It isn't only the Nautilus itself which is worth a 2 mile pathless hike but also the amazing natural beauty of the surroundings.
Photos were taken during my visit in May 2014.
Above: Hikers have to follow a sandy ravine next to the Paria River.
Above and below: When you see light greyish sandstone formations, the Nautilus is not far away.
Let's have a look inside…
…and from inside out
Above and below: The landscape around the Nautilus seems kind of unreal.
Above: Beautfiul colored cactus flower and stripes of iron oxides in white sandstone.
Above: Isn't it a beautiful landscape? Give thumbs up if you like the pictures. Thank you!
