Currency Design
Money is a global form of communication. How currency is designed speaks to the culture of the country it belongs to, but above all, money must be understood and accessible.
For this project, I was asked to create a new design for the U.S. currency system by proposing dollar bills for $1, $5, and $20 values. I selected American pop artists as a theme, featuring Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol on the front of the system, and used bright colors to reflect the artistic style of the artists. I color grabbed values from original pop art by the artists to create a color palette that tied the currency together and fit the theme. Each dollar bill includes a recolored and/or modified piece of artwork by the artist in the portrait.
To create a currency system that promoted accessibility, each bill has vertical and horizontal orientations, and braille is found at the bottom left corner of bill front for the blind and visually impaired.
