Mother-of-pearl variations
Capiz is a shell from Philippines, naturally translucent, this thin, transparent and pearly material is an infinite source of inspiration.
Set with bronze, capiz can follow any pattern, the only limit is the size of each shell, which constrains the maximum area. Each shell is cut according to the chosen shape, then each piece is set with bronze, giving the possibility to weld them together. Capiz is also easy to paint and can go from translucent to pearly.
This fascinating material is an unique ressource for creation.
I chose to use it for home decoration, lights and also earrings knowing that the light going through each of those product will sublimate them.
Each design is thought to highlight the shell and ancestral know-how of Filipino artisans.
