About the Project
2020 showed us that living outside the city is more comfortable and safer. Even distance of a few kilometers from the metropolis, can make a huge difference; the air becomes much cleaner, the atmosphere is calmer; honestly it becomes a wonderful place for relaxation & rejuvenation.
The brief was to design a vacation home, which will become a favorite place for the family and their close friends to hang out;
The brief was to design a vacation home, which will become a favorite place for the family and their close friends to hang out;
whilst keeping in mind to create a place which respectfully blends in with the mindfully preserved rocks, quartzite, acacia trees and other flora on a backdrop of distant mountains.
The project is designed to reflect the client -his childhood, career, travels, hobbies and most importantly his passion for sustainability-
all this whilst remaining true to its location. The house embraces its surrounding's identity from the flora to the rugged textures of the quartzite of the Aravallis, and presents itself as a melodically elemental story teller.
The seasonal nature of Rajasthan adds another dimension to this built environment. Dry and sunny days can be enjoyed under shaded areas like the colonnade and within cooling rocks, while chilly mystical nights can be spent stargazing by the fireplace located on the porte cochere or around the heated pool by the colonnade.
The pool is floored with rough terrazzo, mixed with native mineral aggregates, which emits a grounding effect and massages the feet. Flowing like a river through sliding doors, the water comes to a gentle rest by bordering rocks that lead to a view of neighboring plants, distant mountains and sky.
All rooms are naturally furnished with poured earth concrete walls, stone, light and layers of view, emitting an earthy sensorial balance.
The interiors were given more or less a traditional touch - from the exposed rubble masonry to arish plaster; from indo saracenic jali patterns to block printed textiles of the region.
In further manifestation of the living nature of this house, certain materials are encouragingly left to change color aesthetics with the natural wear and tear of time.
Touching on all elements of the earth, this house is meticulously designed to emit feelings of harmonious tranquility with nature’s many sensorial layers, for a solemn retreat.
