Here it is! The Brothers Grimm, published in Sofia, Bulgaria by Colibri Publishers, 2021. It has been a huge pleasure working on this book. It took a while because it is a very personal project. Something I hoped to work on ever since I was a kid.
The design of the book as well as the typography was done by Kiril Zlatkov.

...the most important part of my process of creating the illustrations for a book is the feeling I want to convey through the illustration. The hidden things, the message - through a concept I create just for that book. In these stories by the Brothers Grimm, I did my best to create the mood of "movement". With some exceptions, I wanted to make the illustrations flow, move, breathe. Maybe through nature or just the movement of the characters...
... and some end-pages and elements design...
... and here are some ideas, brainstorming sketches and hiccups. Some of these are really corny but I wanted to help the reader associate with the classic fairytale storyline. I wanted to insert the familiar symbols but in a modern way. Also I put a lot of effort into researching the art, fabrics and overall culture of the times the stories "took place" and the time the Grimm brothers wrote them. And did my best to implement some of the things I learned and found interesting...
