Watford FC Rebrand Contest — Finalist

In the summer of 2019, Talenthouse announced a partnership with English Premier League club Watford FC to hold a contest to create a new club crest. Marcus Dilley, a Freelance Graphic Designer, and Brian Gundell, Principal of his own graphic design company, decided to enter.

Brian and Marcus researched both the club and town of Watford, discovering that two major industries called the borough home for quite some time, those being printing and brewing. We felt it was important to create a design that paid tribute to these important industries along with the history of the club itself while we developed the new crest. We submitted 3 designs; one that was more evolutionary, one that took that evolution and pushed it a bit, and then a revolutionary design that was very modern. Ultimately, it was the first of those designs that was chosen for voting, and that is the crest presented here.

Out of over 4,000 entries, the design that Marcus and Brian submitted was the final choice among supporters to go to a final vote against the current club crest. We came very close to winning, with the current crest coming out on top by a 60-40 margin. Despite this, we are extremely proud of the results of our entry, and we thank those who voted for us!
