A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away-- Well, not too long ago-- Scientific advancements have made it possible for quick intergalactic travel! Unfortunately, a quick stop at a Rest Station (like a rest stop, for the terrestrial travelers out there) had gone awry when the Stars used for quick travel have dispersed. At least 10 Stars are needed for the rest of the trip to the next galaxy that sells more stars. Draw bridges, space stations and even a random spike ball block the way to the Stars. Using arrow keys on the trusty keyboard, guide the task ball to collect the 10 Stars needed for safe and fast travel.
The level was designed to be linear, but the thought of multiple roads leading to potential points was intriguing and worked out better than hoped! Originally the game was going to look like a knock off to the show "Wipe Out" but the idea of a space travel themed level seemed more fun. There's no real reason for picking this kind of theme, space is cool. So instead of random walls falling and being pushed by hydraulic cylinders, spinning space stations, and landing UFOs were used to replace the old assets. It took many hours of the day to remake all of the assets, but they were worth it. Especially the fences. First they were a picket fence, then they were steel bars, when finally the concept of an energy fence (that glows blue) matched the rest of the "Space Travel" feel.
The best part of the project was creating all of the 3D meshes that decorated the whole scene. It may have been time consuming, but it was time well spent as it was an enjoyable feat. The color scheme was a bit random, with metallic reds, blues and grays seeming to dominate the entire field. The micro planets, however, are a world of their own and they had their own colors and patterns. There are some glowing elements to some of the meshes to give the futuristic, Sci-Fi vibe. The fence got a special moving grid treatment to make it appear like it is energy keeping things contained.
Many elements are animated. The majority of them are obstacles meant to get the player off their tracks and even knock them off the level! There are some, however, that help the player go further in the level, like the drawbridge. Of course, the Stars needed to be picked up have a special spinning animation and they even have sparks coming out of them too! They're meant to stand out from the many other stars littering the station, including the smaller ones floating all over the place.
Many of the audio assets were picked from Adobe's free sound library. However, the background song was originally created on soundtrap.com. Many pre-made beats and melodies were mixed together to create the song simply named "SpaceGame".
