XC Trail in Newtown, Powys

A local community organisation in Newtown commissioned us to design and build a pumptrack and short XC trail to make the most of land available surrounding a small hill- top reservoir near the centre of town. The final blue grade trail is a circular loop approx. 1km in length and navigates along the sides of the hill, around the reservoir and back to the start to be ridden again and again. The trail was designed to combine many elements of mountain biking to improve the the rider's skills and experience in preparation for riding longer routes. Along the way are climbing switching backs, flowy downhills, rocky sections, jumps and awesome views.

The trail is used by British Cycling for kids training sessions as well as being hugely popular with the locals. The hill is surrounded by housing and compliments an adjacent football ground and other new local developments pushed forward by Open Newtown.
The trail splits half-way to offer two different route options which later remerge. To the left are small flowy berms and to the right is a rocks section. Here, there's two lines depending on ability but both flow into the deep berm around the pond. The more advanced line also features a small rock drop-off.
