Buddhism is the second oldest religion in Indonesia after Hinduism, which arrived from India around the second century. The history of Buddhism in Indonesia is closely related to the history of Hinduism, as a number of empires influenced by Indian culture were established around the same period. The arrival of Buddhism in the Indonesian archipelago began with trading activity, from the early 1st century, by way of the maritime Silk Road between Indonesia and India.

       Brahma Vihara Arama Monastery

Brahma Vihara Arama is a beautiful monastery and the largest Buddhist Temple in Bali.
Brahma Vihara Arama consists of three words: Brahma, Vihara, and Arama. Brahma means praise/glory. Vihara means the way of life, and Arama means place. From the combination of words, it can be concluded that the meaning of Brahmavihara-Arama is a place for self-training, forging the noble/laudable behaviour which in Buddhism includes Metta, Karuna, Mudita, and Upekkha.
