Auschwitz-Birkenau Campaign

Remember auschwitz
Hypothetical campaign for client UNESCO
The goal of these projects were to bring awareness to Auschwitz and the Holocaust, either through teaching or creating curiosity to engage them to learn. As there is an increasing number of Holocaust deniers and people who are unaware of the Holocaust, the preservation of this site is important as it continues to deteriorate. Through this preservation, we not only preserve the truth, but remind people of this tragedy in hopes that
it doesn't happen again.

This campaign was finished in a 3.5 month period and is split up into 5 different projects: Concept Map, Social Media Campaign, Animated Video, Brochure, and Physical Installation.
Concept Map
Before any of the other projects can begin, information had to be gathered. I took a variety of information about the Holocaust, Auschwitz itself, and its current status. This also determined the mood and style for the rest of the projects.
Social Media Campaign
This project is based on spreading information as effectively as possible through social media. Using a visual system, images were created to be as diverse as possible while ensuring that they feel cohesive. Killing or imprisonment are not shown outright like a photo, but they are implied through symbolism and metaphors.
It is also important to make sure the posts are as shocking or interesting as possible to keep the viewer's eyes.

Animated Video (and Storyboard)
Using the same imagery from the social media posts, an animated video was created for another instagram post. This post introduces a bit more facts and words, but not so much to overwhelm the viewer.
Brochure
The brochure expands more on the visual system and continues to introduce more information to the viewer. There is a lot of information to convey, so to prevent the readers from being overwhelmed with text, icono-graphy and graphs were used to make it easier for people to understand. A pop-up was also created inside
the brochure to emphasize the structure of the camp and those who died within.
Physical Installation
The physical installation is specifically meant to create curiosity by using abstract figures and differences in those figures between two entrances. This is meant to make viewers wonder what exactly happened and to investi-gate. This was placed at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library using both the street side entrance and the San José State University entrance. The reason this particular spot was chosen is because the library and campus are meant to be safe spaces to learn and the fact that if people are curious, they can access resources right nearby.

The street side representing pre-Holocaust (1940) and the SJSU side representing post-Holocaust (1945), with the library being that passage of time. The figures on the street side are pristine matte silver, only slightly reflective to show the figure of people in that reflection, but not so much to create detail to give the figures
a human-like quality. On the other entrance, the figures are very dented and worn, with only a very slight reflection showing through the scuffs and dirt, showing that they are still human inside.
