Project 1 & 2 Description:

Project 1: Upcycle is a term used to define enhancing the value of unwanted items into re-purposed or re-created items of greater value. The process of upcycling is increasingly present in today’s retail and e-tail economies as late millennials and gen z customers appreciate the philosophical and environmental benefits of re-purposing unwanted items.
The first project was to upcycle common everyday items by enhancing their value, aesthetics and function. Each student selected one item from 3 different categories – furniture, clothing and decorative items that will be sold in their retail space.

Project 2: The second and major project builds on the themes and trends revealed previous class research. Students were required to create an enhanced thrift store that incorporates a circular business model where all elements of the supply chain or workflow serve to elevate the original product from used good to a customized luxury item. The thrift store includes ways to re-create, translate, upscale and customize everyday objects into globally desirable goods that can be purchased on site or sold online. The basic elements of the project includes warehouse and storage for receiving and sorting goods, creative centers for reimagining these goods, manufacturing of re-designed goods, display of new products, and a fulfillment center for packaging and shipping to anywhere on the planet.
