Communitea Fund

An illustration we did for Communitea Fund.
Communitea has been set up to help raise enough funds to keep the London Chinese Community Centre open. It is currently at risk of closure due to a combination of cuts in government funding as well as the pandemic preventing the centre from being able to organise its usual fundraising events such as the Lunar New Year celebrations.

The project has brought together 55 artists from 14 different countries to create artwork based on the theme of tea. Our print is based on the old tea shops in Hong Kong that sell really bitter medicinal tea (it’s good for you!) from giant vats and cauldrons. This is our reimagining of a YUK FUN tea shop in a parallel universe where we sell good strong brews instead of illustrating stuff. As you can see it has been visited by famous actors and our cat Dora happily wanders around sniffing the customers.

The LCCC supports the local Chinese community in London with EVERYTHING and they run loads of classes (painting, calligraphy, Cantonese, Mandarin, yoga and more!). These community centres are really important in particular for older people and vulnerable people who may not speak fluent English and need extra support. They provide free legal advice, benefits advocacy, health and wellbeing clinics, free tai chi lessons and so much more. Lucy’s parents do not speak fluent English and her dad was a member of the Portsmouth Chinese Association who do similar things – he knew if he ever needed any help he could go to them.

Please buy a print and if you don’t like ours then you have 54 other amazing ones to choose from! If you’d just like to donate some money to the London Chinese Community Centre, here is the link to their Go Fund Me page. ⠀
