Me & my team did this proposal during last Christmas and New Year period for a bid. We were not so lucky in China to win this competition due to some business issues with the client.
The project was located in Wen An which is a not so big town in He Bei province near Beijing. We went to there to understand the town and its history. And we found that fighting with the great flood has always been an important issue for this place. Long time ago, local people built the wall around the city not only as a wall but also worked as a dam to project the city from being flooded. And this inspired us to take the old wall as a key concept in our proposal.
Parametric design was introduced in our design to assist our team to analyze the site conditions addressing to several aspects that may infulunce the Urban planning exhibition hall including columns, electricity room, sun light and so on.
And parametric design was used to design the wall within our site. We thought that fighting with the flood would defnitely leave some marks on the wall itself. So we use parametric design methods to give the wall a sign by the way that we arrange the bricks of the wall.
We combined the old urban fabric with modern urban fabric together. Intending to recall the memories of local citizens and also be attractive to the visitors who are not living there at the same time.
