SAUL BASS: Graphic Designer

For my very first project in my Digital Communications class, we were required to learn how to use Adobe Photoshop on our computers. I had used the app a couple of times in the past for other assignments but hadn't gone as deep or in depth as I would for this assignment. I was very nervous.

In this, we were required to research a creative in our field as well as a quote and design a poster in their likeness. For me, I decided to do some research on Saul Bass, a well-known graphic designer who has designed many famous movie posters such as Vertigo, The Shining, Anatomy of a Murder, and many more. I also picked a quote from him saying "Design is thinking made visual".

For the images, I picked the hand from The Man With A Golden Arm poster, a random blocky pencil I found on Google, and picked an image of Saul from Google images. The reason I picked these specifically and designed them in this particular way you see now is because a lot of Saul's work is moving. So I wanted to incorporate that into my own work as well to emulate his work.

Overall, I would have to say that I really enjoyed working this assignment. My professor made us work on several in-class exercises and gave us several lectures prior to making the final which I feel really helped me get comfortable with the application. I also feel that this project was very important as at some point in the future, I will be required to use Photoshop for my job and it will be good for me to have used the app before.
